Magstripe locks lose their ‘attraction’

Pardon the terrible pun, but it does seem as though electronic magstripe locks have finally lost their ‘attraction’. News that a market leader has ended sales of its magstripe lock range surely sounds the final death knell for this legacy product.

Having been around for the best part of 30 years, magstripe locks have served the industry well. In more recent years, though, they have been overtaken by technologies such as contactless RFID and smartphone operated locks. One of the major advantages or these newer systems is greatly increased reliability. Pretty much everyone has been locked out of a hotel room at some time or another when their magstripe card has been ‘wiped’ by a mobile phone!

The good news is that TLJ offer an easy, low cost upgrade path for magstripe locks. The Infinity lockset is a direct swap for the market leader, offering full contactless capability with the option of a smartphone upgrade.

No extra cutting out is needed on the door, meaning no mess, no additional face plates, and minimal disruption for guests and residents. In fact, the conversion process is so simple it takes around 15 minutes per door to go from outdated magstripe technology to modern, reliable contactless locks!

Another benefit of upgrading to TLJ Infinity locks is the peace of mind that that they have been tested up to, and beyond, the latest industry safety and security standards. They hold full CE marking for fire safety, mechanical and electrical testing. Indeed, the most recent official fire test on a TLJ Infinity lock, using a door cut out for the equivalent magstripe lock, showed the TLJ product surpassing the required standard by more than 50%! We also hold Certifire accreditation (another worldwide fire safety standard) and Secured by Design, an official Police security initiative.
