How TLJ helped a ghost, a wedding party and a Black Forest bear feel more secure

I don’t get out much. Guess that’s a downside of being an office-based marketer. So it was great to visit a client recently, and witness a TLJ installation team in action.

The venue was Cave Castle Hotel and Country Club in East Yorkshire. This stunning building dates back to 1875, but there have been fortifications on the site since way back in the 11th Century. They now have an enviable reputation as a leading venue for banqueting and wedding receptions, and host a variety of day and residential corporate events. On top of that, Cave Castle boasts a wide range of beautifully appointed bedroom and suites (with at least one resident ghost!), a health and leisure complex, award-winning restaurants, golf club and fishing lakes. One of the most impressive features is the wood panelled reception with roaring open fire, complete with imposing Black Forest Bear carved statue! All this is set within 150 acres of rolling countryside at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds.

How it works

As part of a major refurbishment of the property, TLJ were chosen to replace electronic key card locks on over seventy bedroom doors, plus install wall-mounted access readers on two external doors. Guests will be issued with RFID key cards which will be ‘cut’ on site using TLJ’s dedicated software. Each card will be coded with permissions giving the guests access to their bedrooms, external doors and specific areas of the hotel for the duration of their stay. In addition, management and housekeeping staff will be issued with convenient wristbands that perform the same function as key cards.

Why TLJ for Cave Castle?

Cave Castle’s incumbent locking system was old and becoming obsolete. The door locks themselves were big and bulky, in keeping with neither the elegant look of the hotel nor the refurbishments taking place. TLJ Infinity locks were chosen for their clean, modern design, durability and exceptional cost effectiveness. An added benefit was that no extra work was needed to the doors, bar a lick of paint, to ‘make good’ following the removal of the old locks.

I was given a tour of the hotel and leisure complex by Christopher Lax, Cave Castle’s Maintenance Manager. Clearly passionate about his job, Chris enthused about our locks and the part we’re playing in building a bright future for Cave Castle.

He said:

A high-end establishment needs high-end access control. We chose TLJ’s electronic locks based on price, quality and reputation. So far we’re confident we’ve definitely made the right choice in picking TLJ, and not only because they we’re far and away cheaper than their competitors.

We’ve been more than impressed at every step of the process – from quote to installation, commissioning and aftersales. They took time to properly understand what we wanted to achieve – the unique and varied rooms and areas we have in the castle, and the type of clientele we serve every day.

The locks and door readers look superb in place, and I’ve been amazed by the lack of disruption caused by this major refit. Our decorating team were over the moon when they saw what little needed to be done to the doors after the new locks were fitted. And it’s the little things that make a difference, like the guys thoroughly cleaning up after themselves. Important when we’ve just spend £1,000’s on new carpets!
