Broxbourne Borough Council provides a range of temporary accommodation for people that find themselves to be homeless. This includes Brook House which is a secure Council run property providing families with their own room and a shared kitchen and bathroom. The building consists of 26 rooms over 3 floors including 4 store rooms. TLJ has installed the ‘Infinity’ model throughout the property and the ‘Hurricane’ model to the main entrance.
The main purpose of the project was to enhance security of the property but also to provide an audit trail of room usage by tenants. The system is managed off site at the council offices where new tenants are provided with keycards. The main external entrance to Brook House is also fitted with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) keycard lock which is manufactured to perform as a communal lock for all tenants The lock is coated with PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) providing a weather proof barrier and extending the life of the lock in outdoor conditions.
Hurricane used on Temporary AccommodationThe RFID technology and Software Management system enables the council to audit the locks which provides information on the last 500 operations of every lock in Brook House. This gives the Council valuable information on whether the hostel accommodation is being fully utilised by its tenants whilst also recording building and room entry which is invaluable in the event of tenant disputes.
Broxbourne Borough will be looking to roll out the system across more of its hostels over the coming months.
